4-17controller Commandscontroller set automatic_failoverAutomatic failover allows you to replace a failed disk with areplacement disk. The controller then automatically assigns thedisk you insert as a failover disk without your having to first assignit with the array set failover or array setglobal_failover command.Note that the automatic failover feature works only with disks thatreside in a SAF-TE enclosure management device. To turn on or off automatic failover for the specified controller, usethe controller set automatic_failover command.Caution: The controller deletes any data on thereplacement disk when automatic failover is enabled andyou remove the failed disk and insert the replacement diskin the failed disk’s slot.NotesTo assign one or more failover disks for a single array, you use thearray set failover command. To assign one or more failoverdisks for all arrays, you use the array set global_failovercommand. Although all array types accept failover assignments, only mirror sets and RAID 5 arrays use the failover assignment if adisk fails. (Mirror sets and RAID 5 arrays are often referred to asredundant arrays). The main characteristic of these commands isthat you must “manually” assign the failover disk to one or morearrays. In fact, you might consider the previously describedfailover mechanism as “manual failover”.The controller will assign a replacement drive as a failover diskonly if the serial number of the drive is different from the serialnumber of the drive it replaces.!
