TroubleshootingAppendix A-5MAINTENANCE AND TROUBLESHOOTINGAPull the thread to pass it through the slit in the needleplate cover, then cut it with the cutter.3 Slit4 CutterSewing with the correct thread tension is possible afterthe bobbin has been correctly installed in the bobbincase.Tangled thread on wrong side of fabric■ Symptom• The thread becomes tangled on the wrong side of thefabric.• After starting sewing, a rattling noise is made andsewing cannot continue.• Looking under the fabric, there is tangled thread inthe bobbin case.■ CauseIncorrect upper threadingIf the upper thread is incorrectly threaded, the upperthread passed through the fabric cannot be firmly pulledup and the upper thread becomes tangled in the bobbincase, causing a rattling noise.■ Remedy/check detailsRemove the tangled thread, and then correct the upperthreading.aRemove the tangled thread. If it cannot be removed,cut the thread with scissors.• For details, refer to “Cleaning the race” on page A-2.bRemove the upper thread from the machine.• If the bobbin was removed from the bobbin case,refer to “Installing the bobbin” in the “Basicoperations” section and “Remedy/check details” inthe section “Upper thread tightened up” on page A-4to correctly install the bobbin.cRefer to the following steps to correct the upperthreading. Raise the presser foot using the presser footlever.1 Presser foot lever→ The upper thread shutter opens so the machine canbe threaded.• If the presser foot is not raised, the machine cannotbe threaded correctly.dPress (Needle position button) once or twice toraise the needle.→ The needle is correctly raised when the mark on thehandwheel is at the top, as shown below.
