9W006 and 9W007 13I NSTALLING THE M ODULEUpgrading the SoftwareYou will now see the system prompt. We recommend that you select a new password. To do this,enter the following command at the system prompt then follow the onscreen directions:pswdFollow the instructions below to assign the module’s new IP address.A SSIGNING THE M ODULE’S IP ADDRESSTo assign the module’s new IP address, enter the following command at the system prompt:ipconfigAs prompted, enter:• the system’s IP address• the required subnet mask• for the system’s default route, enter the IP address of the system’s default gateway (enter 0 ifthere is no default route)Follow the instructions to restart the module so that the configuration changes will take effect.REMOTE ACCESS USING TELNETYou will use Telnet to remotely access the module for routine system management once initialinstallation and configuration has been performed. The same instructions given in Initial AccessUsing Telnet can be followed here with one exception, instead of Telneting into the module’s initialdefault IP address, you will Telnet to the new IP address you have configured for the module.You will need to establish an administration session so that you can issue console commands. Onceconnected, you will be prompted for a login ID and your password. Enter admin for both unless youhave already changed the initial password. If you have already configured a new password, enterthe new password instead.U PGRADING THE S OFTWAREThe module comes preinstalled with system software. Therefore, if this is a new installations youmay disregard this section.The SmartSwitch Remote Access Module CD contains the module’s upgrade software. To upgradethe module’s software, you will use a remote device with a CD-ROM drive to Telnet into themodule, then TFTP the new software files to the module.To perform an upgrade, you must first set up Telnet access, then TFTP the system softwareupgrade. The following sections provide instructions for each task.SETTING UP A T ELNET CONNECTIONThrough a remote device, you can access the SmartSwitch Remote Access Module using Telnet. Todo this, the PC must have Telnet client software. You will Telnet to the module’s IP address. Notethe initial IP address for a new module is 192.186.254.254, but you should have configured a newIP address for the module during the initial access.
