When going up steep hills, you might have to apply theaccelerator pedal to maintain yourspeed. When going downhill, youmight have to brake or shift to alower gear to keep your speeddown. If the brake pedal is applied, the cruise control will disengage.Ending Cruise ControlThere are four ways to end cruisecontrol:. Step lightly on the brake pedal.. Press *.. To turn off the cruise control, press J.Erasing Speed MemoryThe cruise control set speed iserased from memory if J ispressed or if the ignition isturned off.Adaptive Cruise ControlIf equipped with Adaptive CruiseControl (ACC), it allows the driver toselect the cruise control set speedand following gap. Read this entiresection before using this system. The following gap is the followingtime between your vehicle and avehicle detected directly ahead inyour path moving in the samedirection. If no vehicle is detected inyour path, ACC works like regularcruise control. ACC uses cameraand radar sensors. See Declarationof Conformity (TransmissionSystems) on page 13-1 orDeclaration of Conformity (LongRange Radar) on page 13-1 orDeclaration of Conformity (TyreJack) on page 13-2.If a vehicle is detected in your path,ACC can apply acceleration orlimited, moderate braking tomaintain the selected following gap.To disengage ACC, apply the brake. If ACC is controlling your vehiclespeed when the traction controlsystem (TCS) or electronic stabilitycontrol system activates, the ACCmay automatically disengage. SeeTraction Control/Electronic StabilityControl on page 9-30. When roadconditions allow ACC to be safelyused, the ACC can be turnedback on.ACC will not engage if the TCS orStabiliTrak electronic stability controlsystem is disabled.{ WarningACC has limited braking abilityand may not have time to slowthe vehicle down enough to avoida collision with another vehicleyou are following.
