Black plate (32,1)Cadillac STS Owner Manual - 2011Driver Shift Control (DSC)Notice: If you drive the vehicle at a high rpmwithout upshifting while using Driver Shift Control(DSC), you could damage the vehicle. Alwaysupshift when necessary while using DSC.Driver Shift Control (DSC) allows you shift an automatictransmission similar to a manual transmission. To usethe DSC feature:1. Move the shift lever to the right from D (Drive) intothe DSC area.When in DSC mode, thesport symbol will appearin the Driver InformationCenter (DIC).The vehicle will remain in sport mode if theshift lever is not moved. Sport mode will shiftautomatically but remain in a gear longer then itwould in normal driving mode based on brakingand acceleration.2. Press the shift lever forward to upshift or rearwardto downshift.When using the DSCmode, the numberdisplayed on the DriverInformation Center (DIC)indicates the gear that thetransmission is in. SeeDriver Information Center(DIC) on page 4‑69 formore information onthe DIC.When starting the vehicle from a stopped condition, only1 (First) and 2 (Second) gear may be used.While using the DSC feature the vehicle will have firmershifting and increased performance. You can use thisfor sport driving or when climbing/descending hills tostay in gear longer or to down shift for more power orengine braking.The transmission will only allow you to shift intogears appropriate for the vehicle speed and engineRevolutions Per Minute (RPM). The transmission willnot automatically shift to the next higher gear if theengine RPM is too high.3-32
