9-4Periodic cleaningYour fax requires little periodic maintenance. This section describes the necessary cleaning procedures forthe fax. Please note the following before cleaning:• Be sure to disconnect the power cord before cleaning the fax. Since documents in memory are erased whenthe power is disconnected, print any documents stored in memory before disconnecting the power cord.(see p. 6-13)• Do not use tissue paper, paper towels, or similar materials for cleaning; they can stick to the componentsor generate static charges.Cleaning the exterior of the fax ________________Follow the procedure below to clean the outer casing of the fax.Cleaning the interior of the fax ________________KK Cleaning inside the printer coverTo prevent ink spots and paper dust from accumulating inside the fax and affecting print quality, clean theprint area of the fax periodically.Follow the procedure below to clean inside the fax.Never use volatile liquids such as thinners, benzene, acetone, or any other chemical cleaner to cleanthe interior of the fax; these can damage its components.1 Disconnect the power cord from the fax. 2 Wipe the exterior of the fax with a clean,soft, lint-free cloth moistened with wateror diluted dishwashing detergentsolution.3 When you are finished, reconnect thepower cord.1 Disconnect the power cord from the fax.2 Open the printer cover using the printercover tab. (see p. 2-2)Do not touch the components or anymetal parts since this may adverselyaffect operation of the fax and/or affectprint quality.
