AA-1 Token Ring Network OptionToken Ring is an alternative network architecture to Ethernet architecture. Token Ringnetworks offer a high resistance to failure and are commonly used in large orhigh-traffic network installations.Token Ring networks operate by passing a network token around the electronicequivalent of a ring. The token is a data packet that circulates from one networknode to another, controlling access to the network. In practice, each workstation isconnected to a port on one or more media attachment units (MAUs) which act asnetwork hubs for the ring connection. This appendix describes the Token Ring option and cable connections, and refers youto the remaining configuration required for printing to the ColorPASS.ColorPASS Token Ring optionThe ColorPASS supports Token Ring networks that use IPX and TCP/IP protocols. Touse the ColorPASS with a Token Ring network, a Token Ring network interface cardprovided by EFI must be installed in the ColorPASS. You can use either shieldedtwisted pair (STP) or unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable.Connecting Token Ring hardwareThe service/support center that installs the ColorPASS typically also installs the TokenRing option at the same time and configures the ColorPASS to enable printing.Appendix A:Token RingNetwork Option
