The firmware in thePRC-E controller can be easily upgraded using an Internetbrowser to upload the firmware update file to the controller. The following procedure explains in detail the process ofupdating the firmware in the PRC-E controller. Any availableInternet browser might be used for the process. What are firmware update filesThe firmware files are compressed archive files withthe name “update tgz”, containing the latest fixes andimprovements to the operation of the PRC-E controller. Theword update might be followed by the firmware descriptorand version, but the firmware update file name will alwaysstart with “update” and end with “ tgz”.Sample firmware update file name.Where to store firmware update filesOnce you receive the firmware update file, it can be savedon any media (i.e.: local hard drive, of the computer, USBdrive, network drive, etc.) that can be accessed by thecomputer performing the firmware upgrade process. How to connect to the PRC-E controllerTo upgrade firmware in the PRC-E controller, you will haveto connect to the particular device over the local Ethernetnetwork or through the front Maintenance Port. ThePRC2000E and PRC1500E controllers can be connected tothe local Ethernet network; to connect to any other type ofPRC-E controller (PRC1000E, PRC750E), you must use frontMaintenance Port. When you are connecting to the PRC2000E or PRC1500Econtroller over the Ethernet network, make sure that youhave access to the same network that these controllers areconnected to.When connecting to the PRC-E controller through the frontMaintenance Port, please make sure that the wireless portionof your computer network is disabled, and the computer’snetwork configuration is set to accept DHCP assignedaddress. Connect a patch cable between the computer andthe front Maintenance Port of the PRC-E controller. All PRC-E controllers Maintenance Ports are configuredwith a fixed IP address set at 192.168.222.1. Connectingto the controller webpages is accomplished by openingthe Internet browser and typing the fixed IP address intobrowser address bar. The controller will prompt the userfor connection credentials required before performing thefirmware upgrade.Connection credentialsBefore you can connect to the PRC-E controller, you will bepresented with the window asking for your credentials. Thedefault credentials are:User Name: adminPassword: adminWhen asked, type user name and password in theaccording fields (Figure 44), and click on the OK buttonor press Enter key to connect to the PRC-E controller. Theuser name and password are case sensitive.Only users with admin rights will be able to upgrade thefirmware in the PRC-E controllers.Figure 44 Enter User Name and PasswordAccessing the Upgrade Device Firmware webpageotee:N 166.99.19.138 is a sample IP address of the PRC-Econtroller used for the demonstration purposes;substitute this entry with the IP address of thePRC-E controller you want to connect to, displayedhere as: . If the PRC2000Econtroller is connected to the local Ethernet network, the firmware upgrade might be performed from anylocation on this network.Direct access to the Upgrade DeviceFirmware webpageConnecting to the PRC2000E controller over theEthernet networkWhen connected to the PRC2000E controller over thenetwork, you can directly open the firmware upgradewebpage in your Internet browser.
