IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS-A WARNING: SAFETY PRECAUTIONS• Do not use water on grease fires. Neverpick up a flaming pan. Turn the controlsoff. Smother a flaming pan on a surfaceUnit by covering the pan completely witha welt-fitting lid, cookie sheet or fiat tray.Use a multi-purpose dry chemical orfoam-type fire extinguisher.Flaming grease outside a pan can be putout by covering it with baking soda or,if available, by using a multi-purpose drychemical or foam-type fire extinguisher.Flame in the oven can be smothered completelyby closing the oven door and turning the ovenoff or by using a multi-purpose dry chemical orfoam-type fire extinguisher." DO NOT STORE OR USE COMBUSTIBLEMATERIALS, GASOLINE OR OTHERFLAMMABLE VAPORS AND LIQUIDS IN THEVICINITY OF THIS OR ANY OTHER APPLIANCE,• Do not let cooking grease or other flammablematerials accumulate in or near the range.Clean grease troughs (some models) andburner pans after every use.• If you smell gas, the installer has not done aproper job of checking for leaks. You con have asmall Ieak, and therefore a faint gas smell,if the connections are not completely tight.Finding a gas leek is NOT a do-it-yourselfprocedure. Some leaks can only be foundwith the burner control in the ON position. Foryour protection, it must be done by a qualifiedservice technician. Never use an open flameto locate a leak.° If by some chance a burner goes out andgas escapes, open a window or a door tolet the room air out. Do not attempt to usethe appliance until the gas has had timeto dissipate. Follow the instructions in"What to do if You Smelt Gas" on page 2.° Never block the vents (air openings) of therange. They provide the air inlet and outletthat are necessary for the range to operateproperly with correct combustion. Air openingsare located at the top and bottom of the ovendoor, in the front portion of the control panel,at the rear of the cooktop and along thebottom of the range.° Besure all the range and/or cooktopcontrols are turned off and the appliance iscool before using any type of aerosol cleaneror cooking spray on or around the appliance.The chemicalthat produces the sprayingaction could, in the presence of heat, igniteor cause metal parts to corrode.WARNING: SURFACE COOKING SAFETY PRECAUTIONSDo not heat unopened food containers; abuildup of pressure may cause the containerto burst.Set the burner control sothat the flameheats only the bottom of the pan and doesnot extend beyond the bottom of the pan.Excessiveflame is hazardous. The high BTUburners can easily melt cookware handles.• Hold the handle ofthe pan, using a dry potholder, to prevent movement of the utensilwhen stirring or turning food.° Always use the LITEposition when ignitingthe surface burners and make sure theburners have ignited.6
