47AQUAMAP™ 10x2/12x2 SERIESof sound, so that the echoes from fish schools of the same size aredisplayed in the same color. Avoid excessive TVG; weak echoes may notbe displayed. The TVG is also useful for reducing surface noise. TVG isintended to compensate for the fact that close-in returns provide a louderecho than further-away ones by using a lower gain level in the periodimmediately after the sounder stops transmitting its ping (echoes fromnearby objects) and then ramping up the gain level over time as the pingtravels into deeper water, attenuating as it goes.Adjusts the appearance of returns to compensate for weakened sonarsignals in deeper water, and reduces the appearance of noise near thesurface. When the value of this setting is increased, the colors associatedwith low-level noise and fish targets appear more consistent throughvarious water depths. The ideal end result of using TVG appropriately isthat if you increase Gain until you see a lot of clutter on the screen, theamount of clutter should spread evenly throughout the depth of the watercolumn.TVG SettingOff Low Medium HighColor Filter: Shows or hides individual colors to customize the appearance ofsonar returns.Color Bar: Shows or hides the color legend.Sonar Appearance SettingsFrom an applicable sonar view, select MENU > Sonar Setup / ClearVüSetup / SideVü Setup > Appearance.Color Scheme: Sets the color palette.Color Gain: Adjusts the intensity of colors shown on the screen. Youcan select a higher color gain value to see targets higher in the watercolumn. A higher color gain value also allow you to differentiate lowintensity returns higher in the water column, but this causes a loss in thedifferentiation of the returns at the bottom. You can select a lower colorgain value when targets are near the bottom, to help you distinguishbetween targets and high intensity returns such as sand, rock, and mud.Overlay Data: Sets the data shown on the sonar screen.A-Scope: Displays a vertical flasher along the right side of the screen thatshows instantaneously the range to targets along a scale.Depth Line: Shows a quick-reference depth line.Whiteline: Highlights the strongest signal from the bottom to help define thehardness or softness of the signal.Pic. Advance: Allows the sonar picture to advance faster by drawing morethan one column of data on the screen for each column of sounder datareceived. This is especially helpful when you are using the sounder indeep water, because the sonar signal takes longer to travel to the waterbottom and back to the transducer. The 1/1 setting draws one column of information on the screen persounder return. The 2/1 setting draws two columns of information on thescreen per sounder return, and so on for the 4/1 and 8/1 settings.Fish Symbols: Shows the position and size of schools of fish using symbolsand numbers.Turning On the A-ScopeNOTE: This feature is available in the Traditional sonar views.
