Chapter 1. Introduction to PlanningThis chapter of the Physical Planning Manual is intended to help you with planningpre-installation activities. IBM Marketing and Installation Planning Representativesare also available to help you with installation planning. Proper planning for yournew system will facilitate a smooth installation and fast system start-up.The use of the terms, ’processor’, ’system’ and ’all models’ in this publication referto the zSeries 800 system.System PlanningAs part of your system planning activity, you will make decisions about where tolocate your equipment, who will operate the system, and so on. A good planensures that the equipment and materials are ready to use when the zSeries 800system arrives.You should select an individual to serve as the coordinator for your planning efforts.One person is generally responsible for most or all of the system planning, but it isalso possible to divide the responsibilities among other people in your business.The type of software (operating system and application programs) that you intend touse must support the features and devices on the system.
