Planning ChecklistThis checklist identifies installation tasks and responsibilities sequentially. If youhave to renovate your site, you will need a longer planning cycle.Task/ConsiderationTask Assigned(check)Checkpoint 1Designate a person in your organization with the responsibility for all phasesof site preparation._______Review all site planning information with the designated person. Determinewho will actually perform each site preparation task and mark this checklist._______Plan for the installation of the device cables between the devices and theprocessor. Before leaving this checkpoint step, turn to Chapter 6, “Cablingand Connectivity,” on page 6-1 and read the information now about planningfor future cable needs and the “zSeries Fiber Cabling Service” on page 6-1_______Determine the schedule with your IBM marketing representative. Fill in thedates on this form._______Identify communication needs and the source for the communication lines.Identify modem needs._______Checkpoint 2Lay out the floor plan. Show the locations of the processor, control units,work stations, modems, power outlets, and accessories. If you are planninga new computer room, information contained on IBM’sResource Link website (http://www.ibm.com/servers/resourcelink) may be helpful. See ″GeneralInformation for Planning a Physical Site″. If you are planning an installationon a non-raised floor, ask your marketing representative if your systemrequires cables designed to reduce electronic noise interference._______Review the overall site preparation plan. _______Place orders for cables. See Chapter 6, “Cabling and Connectivity,” on page6-1_______Contact the IBM zSeries Fiber Cabling Service (FCS) for assistance. FCSwill help you plan for the cabling solution that meets your individual systemrequirements. Your marketing representative will provide you with theinformation necessary to contact FCS._______Checkpoint 3Determine if the existing programs need changes. Schedule changes asrequired._______Determine if any existing devices and control units need changes. Schedulechanges as required._______Arrange for installing the device cables between the work stations,controllers, and modems._______Arrange for installing the power receptacles and wiring. _______Define a training program for employees. _______Use Resource Link (http://www.ibm.com/servers/resourcelink) to obtainrequired manuals (such as System Overview,IOCP Users Guide,PR/SM ™Planning Guide).
