However, the digital signals will bepassed through to the Digital AudioOutputs ¶bg.Tuner OperationThe CVR700’s tuner is capable of tuningAM, FM and FM Stereo broadcast sta-tions. Stations may be tuned manually,or they may be stored as favorite stationpresets and recalled from a 30-positionmemory.Station Selection1. Press the Tuner Button d onthe remote to select the tuner as aninput. The tuner may be selected fromthe front panel by turning the SourceSelector q until the tuner is active.2. Press the Tuner Button d orTuner Band Selector ! to switchbetween AM and FM so that thedesired frequency band is selected.3. When using the front-panel controls,the Tuning Mode Button 6 isused to select the function of theTuning/Preset Up/Down Buttons8. Press the Tuning Mode Button6 to toggle between TUNING andPRESET. Press the Tuning ModeSelector o on the remotes toselect manual or automatic tuning.In either mode, each press of theTuning Selectors 8vfwill increase or decrease the fre-quency by one increment. When theTuning Mode Selector o hasbeen pressed so that AUTO TUNEappears in the Lower Display LineE, pressing and holding the TuningSelectors 8vf willcause the tuner to scan for the nexthigher or lower frequency with anacceptable signal. Release the button,and AUTO TUNED will appear inthe Lower Display Line E to indi-cate that a station has been tuned.AUTO ST TUNED will appear inthe Lower Display Line E for FMstereo stations.When the Tuning Mode Selectoro has been pressed so thatMANUAL TUNE appears in theLower Display Line E, pressingand holding the Tuning Selectors8vf will cause thetuner to scan up or down throughall frequencies, stopping when yourelease the button, even if no accept-able signal is present. The messageMANUAL TUNED will neverthe-less appear in the Lower DisplayLine E.4. Stations may also be tuned directly ineither the automatic or manual mode.To enter a station’s frequency directly,first select the AM or FM band asdesired be pressing the Tuner Buttond . Next, press the DirectButton l . Within 5 seconds ofwhen DIRECT IN scrolls in theLower Display Line E, enter thestation frequency by pressing theNumeric Keys l . If you pressan incorrect button while entering adirect frequency, press the Exit/Cancel Button r to start over.Preset TuningUsing the remote, up to 30 stations maybe stored in the CVR700’s memory foreasy recall using the front-panel controlsor the remote.To enter a station into the memory, firsttune the station using the steps outlinedabove. Then:1. Press the Memory Button @k; two underlines will flash in theUpper Display Line H.2. Within 5 seconds, press the NumericKeys l corresponding to thememory location where you wish tostore this station’s frequency. The pre-set number will appear in the UpperDisplay Line H.3. Press the Memory Button @kagain to store the preset station.4. Repeat the process after tuning anyadditional stations to be preset.NOTE: By its nature, plasma displaydevices tend to interfere with AM radioreception. In any event, as mentionedelsewhere in this manual, it is preferableto leave the screen off to avoid burn-inwhen no video signal is present and thestartup screen may be displayed for along time. Therefore, when the AM tunerband is selected as the source, the CVPD50will automatically enter the standby mode.To wake it, simply select any other source(including the FM tuner band).Recalling Preset Stations• To manually select a station previouslyentered in the preset memory, pressthe Numeric Keys l for thedesired station’s memory location.• To manually scroll through the list ofpreset stations, press the PresetStations Selector Button 8th on the front panel or remote.When using the front-panel controls,remember to first press the TuningMode Selector 6 to select Presetas the function of the Tuning/PresetButtons 8.RecordingIn normal operation, the audio or videosource selected for listening through theCVR700 is sent to the record outputs.This means that any program you arewatching or listening to may be recordedsimply by placing machines connectedto the Digital Recorder Analog Audio/Video Outputs ‚ or VCR AnalogAudio/Video Outputs ¤ in therecord mode.When a digital audio recorder is connectedto the Digital Audio Outputs bg7,you are able to record the digital signalusing a CD-R, MiniDisc or other digitalrecording system.NOTES:• The digital outputs are active onlywhen a digital signal is present, andthey do not convert an analog input toa digital signal, or change the formatof the digital signal. In addition, thedigital recorder must be compatiblewith the output signal. For example,the PCM digital input from a CDplayer may be recorded on a CD-Ror MiniDisc, but Dolby Digital orDTS signals may not.• Please obey the copyright restrictionson any material you copy. Unauthorizedduplication of copyrighted materials isprohibited by law.Output Level Trim AdjustmentNormal output level adjustment for theCVR700 is established using the test tone,as outlined on pages 50–52. In somecases, however, it may be desirable toadjust the output levels using programmaterial such as a test disc, or a selectionyou are familiar with. Additionally, theoutput level for the subwoofer can onlybe adjusted using this procedure.To adjust the output levels using programmaterial, first set the reference volume forthe front left and front right channelsusing the Volume Control Óu .If you are using a disc with test signalsor an external signal generator as thesource used when the output levels arebeing trimmed, you may use the
