70Configuring the PF KeysThe Programmable Function (PF) keys are thehorizontal row of 4 keys located on the face of themicrophone. These keys are identified as follows:To RestoreDefaultFunction[F]+ POWER ONFollow theprocedure below.Follow theprocedure below.PF4 Call [SHIFT] +Channel POWER ON‘TM-251/451E: Tone functionIf you prefer, other functions can be assigned to thePF keys:1 Press one of the following key combinationsdepending on which key you want to reassign:[PF] + POWER ON, orMicrophone [MR] + POWER ON, orMicrophone [VFO] + POWER ON, or[CALL] + POWER ONe "PF1", "PF2", “PF3", or "PF4" appears.2 Press the key on the Front Panel that you want toassign to the microphone PF key pressed in Step 1.e The Front Panel key is now assigned to the PFkey.e Also, the Front Panel key will still functionnormally after “copying” its function to a PFkey.Note:> The function of the [F] key cannot be assigned using theabove procedure. To assign the [F] key function to PF1,press [TONE/CTCSS] + POWER ON.v If you decide to restore a default function, follow "To RestoreDefault Function” instructions in the chart for the function thatyou want to restore, or simply do a Full Reset {page 46}.After assigning [SHIFT], [DTSS], or [LOW] to a PF key,pressing the PF key for more than 1 second starts thePlayback, Page, or Lock-out function respectively.vMonitor FunctionMonitor allows you to override any squelch systemsbeing used so activity on a frequency can be heard.This is handy to quickly listen to a frequency withoutactually changing the squelch setting or disabling thesquelch system.Press microphone [PF] to toggle the Monitor functionON and OFF.
