There is often more than one placeto change the same printer setting. These include• The SuperScript PostScript 3 and PCL 5e printer drivers• The Operator Panel on your printerUsing the Printer Operator PanelYou can use the printer Operator Panel to cancel a print job orchange settings that are not available in your printer driver.You can view messages on the Operator Panel to helpdiagnose printing problems. In addition, the printer operatorpanel allows you to print out font lists and test pages andview the total page count. You can also set the printer’s TCP/IP address or reconfigure network settings. Chapter 5, “TheOperator Panel,” provides instructions for using the printeroperator panel.Using Printer DriversYour printer software includes the PostScript 3 printerdrivers for Windows 3.x, Windows 95/98, Windows NT 4.0,and Mac OS and the PCL 5e printer driver for Windows 3.x,Windows 95/98, and Windows NT 4.0. They offer a widerange of features for setting up your print job and printersettings.Most of these features and settings are described in thischapter. A particular feature may be implemented slightlydifferently, depending on which driver you are using.note: If you are unsure about a setting in your printerdriver, be sure to use the driver’s Online Help feature.Chapter 4, “Printer Drivers,” provides completeinformation about using your printer driver software.When to Use the PostScript 3 or PCL 5e Printer DriverUse the PostScript 3 driver for color documents anddocuments that contain many complex graphic images orextensive page layout formatting. The PostScript driver hasmore options and delivers better graphic processing.Use the PCL 5e driver for monochrome documents thatcontain mostly text and limited formatting. The PCL5e driverprocesses this type of document quickly.note: For color printing, you must use the PostScript 3printer driver for your system. The PCL 5e printer driver isfor monochrome printing only.
