Adding Memory (SIMM) 33PRINTER OPTIONSADDING MEMORY (SIMM)The SuperScript 4400 and 4400N have four Single InlineMemory Module (SIMM) slots. The 4400 comes with 32MBRAM. The 4400N comes with 96MB RAM. However, you canupgrade either model to a maximum of 128MB of RAMthrough the installation of additional SIMMs.note: You may need additional memory to print on legalsize paper or at higher resolutions. See the followingtable.See your local computer reseller to purchase expansionSIMMs.Use 72 pin, 60ns high-quality SIMMs. You can useboth parity and non-parity DRAM SIMMs.Adding additional memory will help ensure that your printerhas enough memory to print the most complex graphic printjobs without sacrificing resolution. Added memory will alsoincrease print speed.If you install the optional SuperScript 4400 NIC, you shouldalso upgrade your memory from 32MB to 96MB. The easiestway to do this is to first remove the two 16MB SIMMs thatcame with your printer. Then install two 32MB SIMMs in thefirst two memory sockets. Reinstall the first two 16MBSIMMs (that you removed) under these. Your printer nowhas 96MB of RAM.Remove SIMMs from the bottom memory sockets first. InstallSIMMs to the top memory sockets first.The instructions that follow explain how to install memory inyour printer yourself. You can also contact an NEC-authorized dealer and have more memory installed for aservice fee. Call 800-632-4650.The following table lists the memory requirements, SIMMspecifications, and advantages of added memory.note: If you are installing SIMMs of different capacitiesyou need to use the top two memory sockets marked “A”for the larger capacity SIMMs.When you turn on your printer it will automaticallyrecognize the added memory and show up on the Start Uppage. Make sure the printer driver knows about your addedmemory.
