16Charging the battery1 Connect the lead from the chargerto the bottom of the phone.2 Connect the charger to an AC walloutlet. The battery indicator barstarts to scroll.Note: If the battery is totallyempty, it may take a fewminutes before the chargingindication appears on thedisplay.Tip: The phone can be usedwhile charging if the phone isswitched on.3 The battery is fully charged whenthe battery indicator bar stopsscrolling, and the Battery fulltext is briefly displayed if the phoneis switched on.Charging time depends on thecharger and battery used. Forexample, the charging time for theBLS-2S battery with the ACP-8charger is about 1 h 30 minutes.4 Disconnect the charger first fromthe AC outlet and then from thephone.For more information on usingbatteries, see “Using batteries andchargers” on page 83.Switching the phone on or off1 Press and hold for more than asecond.If the phone asks for a PIN code:• Key in the PIN code, which isdisplayed as asterisks, and pressOK.If the phone asks for a securitycode:• Key in the security code, which isdisplayed as asterisks, and pressOK.For more information, see “Accesscodes” on page 81.Warning! Do not switch on thephone when wireless phone use isprohibited or when it may causeinterference or danger.Normal position: Hold the phoneas you would any other phone withthe antenna pointed up and overyour shoulder.Tip on efficient operation: Aswith any other radio transmittingdevice, do not touch the antennaunnecessarily when the phone isswitched on. Contact with theantenna affects call quality and maycause the phone to operate at ahigher power level than otherwiseneeded.
