FCC Telephone Consumer Protection ActThe Federal Communications Commission Telephone ConsumerProtection Act of 1991 makes it unlawful for any person to use acomputer or other electronic device to send any message via atelephone fax machine unless such message clearly contains in amargin at the top or bottom of each transmitted page or on the firstpage of the transmission, the date and time it is sent and anidentification of the business or other entity, or other individualsending the message, and the telephone number of the sendingmachine or such business, other entity, or individual.To comply with this law, you must enter the following informationin your fax unit:n Date and time: see page 21 for instructions on doing this.n Name and telephone number which identify the source of your faxtransmission: see page 23 for instructions on doing this.Industry Canada Requirements for End UsersThe Industry Canada label identifies certified equipment.This certification means that the equipment meets certaintelecommunications network protective, operational and safetyrequirements. The Department does not guarantee the equipmentwill operate to the user’s satisfaction.Before installing this equipment, users should ensure that it ispermissible to be connected to the facilities of the localtelecommunications company. The equipment must also be installedusing an acceptable method of connection. In some cases, thecompany’s inside wiring associated with a single line individualservice may be extended by means of a certified connector assembly(telephone extension cord). The customer should be aware thatcompliance with the above conditions may not prevent degradationof service in some situations.Repairs to certified equipment should be made by an authorizedCanadian maintenance facility designated by the supplier. Anyrepairs or alterations made by the user to this equipment, orequipment malfunctions, may give the telecommunicationscompany cause to request the user to disconnect the equipment.Users should ensure for their own protection that the electricalground connections of the power utility, telephone lines andinternal metallic water pipe system, if present, are connectedtogether. This precaution may be particularly important in ruralareas.n Users should not attempt to make such connections themselves, butshould contact the appropriate electric inspection authority, orelectrician, as appropriate.The Load Number assigned to each terminal device denotes thepercentage of the total load to be connected to a telephone loopwhich is used by the device, to prevent overloading.
