wc_tx003871gb_FM10.fm160Machines with Aftertreatment Exhaust System15.5 Monitoring DEF QualityThe quality of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is monitored by the genset controller. When the DEF quality begins to deteriorate (or something other than DEF is putinto the DEF tank, or the sensor is disconnected/malfunctioning), the gensetcontroller displays messages alerting the operator as to the condition of the DEFquality. See table below.DEF WARNINGwc_gr012297DEF Quality/malfunction Controller Message Controller / Machine ResponseNo issuesdetectedNo message Normal screen / normal operationIssue detected DEF WARNING ■ Normal operation.■ LED flashes. The SEVERE INDUCMT timer starts.90 minutes afterissue is detectedDEF INDUCEMENT ■ Main circuit breaker trips.■ Machine runs for 10 minutes, then shuts down. This is the first of fourshutdowns allowed by the engine.Note: The genset controller’s 10-minute run timelimitation is still active within the 180-minute engine runtime limit. Thus, up to seventeen restarts by the gensetcontroller are possible within the 180-minute enginecontrolled run time.■ The engine may be restarted, but the run time islessened to 30 minutes. At the 30-minute mark, theengine shuts itself down. This is the second of fourallowed shutdowns. The genset controller’s 10-minuterun time limitation is still active. Thus, up to threerestarts by the genset controller are possible within the30-minute engine controlled run time limit. On the fourthshutdown, the engine controller will lock out the engine. The engine can only be unlocked by a Cummins servicetechnician.
