Page 18 FT-897D OPERATING MANUALINPUT JackThis is the DC power supply connection for the trans-ceiver, used when operating the transceiver with an ex-ternal power supply. Use the supplied DC cable to con-nect this jack to the car battery or DC power supply,which must be capable of supplying at least 22A @ 13.8VDC. For base station operation, the optional FP-30External AC power supply may be attached to the bot-tom of the transceiver and connect the output pigtail ofthe FP-30 to this jack.GND TerminalFor best performance and safety, this Ground lug maybe connected to a good earth ground using a short, heavy,braided cable.CAT/LINEAR JackThis 8-pin mini-DIN jack is used for connection to theFC-30 External Automatic Antenna Tuner or ATAS-100/-120 Active-Tuning Antenna System. It is also used forinterfacing to a personal computer for control of the trans-ceiver using the CAT system, and for interconnectionto the VL-1000 Linear Amplifier.ACC JackThis 3.5-mm 3-pin jack accepts external ALC (AutomaticLevel Control) voltage from a linear amplifier on the tipconnection, and accepts a “Transmit Request” commandon the ring connection. The main shaft is the ground re-turn.The “TX Request” connection, when shorted to ground,puts the FT-897D into the transmit mode, and sends outa steady CW carrier, for linear amplifier or manual an-tenna tuner adjustment.REAR P ANEL C ONNECTORSKEY JackThis 3.5-mm, 3-pin jack is used for connection to a CWkeyer paddle or a straight key.EXT SPKR JackThis 3.5-mm, 2-pin jack provides variable audio outputfor an external speaker.
