Page 53FT-897D OPERATING MANUALDISPLAY C USTOMIZATIONDisplay Lamp ModeThe FT-897D illumination lamp has four options for acti-vation of the illumination.To set up the Lamp mode:1. Press and hold in the [F] button for one second to acti-vate the Menu mode.2. Rotate the MEM/VFO CH knob to select Menu ModeNo-044 [DISP MODE].3. Rotate the DIAL knob select the desired mode. Avail-able selections are:OFF: Disables the LCD illumination.AUTO1: Illuminates the LCD for three seconds whenany button is pressed, or if you rotate theMEM/VFO CH knob.AUTO2: Illuminates the LCD continuously while theFT-897D is operating on an external powersupply. When using the FNB-78 internal bat-tery in the AUTO2 mode, the LCD will lightup for three seconds when any button ispressed, or if you rotate the MEM/VFO CHknob (identical to AUTO1 mode).ON: Illuminates the LCD continuously.4. When you have completed your selection, press and holdin the [F] button for one second to exit the Menu mode.Display ContrastThe LCD’s contrast may be adjusted using the Menu Mode,as well.1. Press and hold in the [F] button for one second to acti-vate the Menu mode.2. Rotate the MEM/VFO CH knob to select Menu ModeNo-042 [DISP CONTRAST].3. Rotate the DIAL knob to adjust the contrast. As you makethe adjustment, you will be able to see the effects of youchanges.4. When you have completed the adjustment, press and holdin the [F] button for one second to exit the Menu mode.Display DimmerThe LCD illumination may also be adjusted using the MenuMode.1. Press and hold in the [F] button for one second to acti-vate the Menu mode.2. Rotate the MEM/VFO CH knob to select Menu ModeNo-043 [DISP INTENSITY].3. Rotate the DIAL knob to adjust the display illuminationfor a comfortable brightness level. As you make the ad-justment, you will be able to see the effects of youchanges.4. When you have completed the adjustment, press and holdin the [F] button for one second to exit the Menu mode.MISCELLANEOUS S ETTINGSDisplay ColorThe LCD color may be changed using the Menu Mode fordifferent operating status conditions. For example, the dis-play may be configured to show a different color accord-ingto ARTS status, by Band, by Memory Group, by VFO/Memory/HOME/QMB status, or may be set to indicate dif-ferent colors according to meter indication (i.e. signalstrength, power output, etc.). Two banks (“1” and “2”) ofcolor combination patterns are available for all selectionsexcept “FIX.”1. Press and hold in the [F] button for one second to acti-vate the Menu mode.2. Rotate the MEM/VFO CH knob to select Menu ModeNo-041 [DISP COLOR].3. Rotate the DIAL to select the desired operating statuswhich you wish utilize. The default selections are:ARTS: The color changes depending on the “InRange” or “Out of Range” status.BAND: The color changes according to the Band inuse.FIX: This is a fixed color.MEMGRP: The color changes according to the selectedMemory Group.MODE: The color changes according to the selectedMode.MTR: The color changes according to the S-meter,PWR-meter, MOD-meter, SWR-meter, orALC-meter reading.VFO: The color changes according to the VFO/Memory/HOME/QMB status.4. Press the MEM/VFO CH knob momentarily, then rotatethe DIAL to select the desired color bank to be utilizedin conjunction with the selection made in step 3.5. Press the MEM/VFO CH knob momentarily, then rotatethe DIAL to select the desired color to be utilized forthis function, in place of the default color.6. When you have completed your selection(s), press andhold in the [F] button for one second to exit the Menumode.
