The MH-59A8J includes a rotary con-trol knob for adjust the operating frequency and receiveraudio volume level.Before connecting the MH-59A8J, you must instruct the FT-897D’s microprocessor that the MH-59A8J is being used,using the Menu Mode:1. Press and hold in the [F] key for one second to activatethe Menu Mode.2. Rotate the MEM/VFO CH knob to recall Menu ModeNo-001 [EXT MENU], then rotate the DIAL to changethe setting to “ON” to enable the extended Menu Mode.3. Rotate the MEM/VFO CH knob to recall Menu ModeNo-059 [MIC SEL]. The default setting for this Menu is“NOR.” Rotate the DIAL to change the setting to “RMT.”4. Press and hold in the [F] key for one second to save thenew setting and exit to normal operation.MH-59A8J Switches and ControlP171482059BACD36ACCP2DTMF MICROPHONEMH-59LOCK SwitchPressing this key locks the FT-897D’s front panel keysso as to prevent accidental frequency change.PTT SwitchPress this switch to transmit, and release it to receive.Keypad[1(DSP)] keyPressing this key provides instant access to MultiFunction Row “p” (MFp), which contains the com-mand keys for the receiver’s Digital Signal Process-ing System.This key generates the DTMF “1” tone during trans-mission, and frequency entry digit “1” during DirectKeypad Frequency Entry.[2(MHz)] keyPressing this key allows tuning in 1-MHz steps ofthe VFO frequency.This key generates the DTMF “2” tone during trans-mission, and frequency entry digit “2” during DirectKeypad Frequency Entry.[3(CLAR)] keyPressing this key momentarily activates the ReceiverClarifier (“R.I.T.”) feature.Press and hold in this key for one second to activatethe IF Shift feature.This key generates the DTMF “3” tone during trans-mission, and frequency entry digit “3” during DirectKeypad Frequency Entry.[4(HOME)] keyPressing this key recalls a favorite “Home” frequencymemory.This key generates the DTMF “4” tone during trans-mission, and frequency entry digit “4” during DirectKeypad Frequency Entry.
