Statistics4-8IF StatisticsThe lower portion of the window provides the following transmit and receivestatistics; note that the first four statistics are also graphically displayed in the piecharts.UnicastDisplays the number of packets transmitted to or received from this interface thathad a single, unique destination address. These statistics are displayed in the piechart, color-coded green.Non-UnicastDisplays the number of packets transmitted to or received from this interface thathad a destination address that is recognized by more than one device on thenetwork segment. The non-unicast field includes a count of broadcast packets —those that are recognized by all devices on a segment. These statistics aredisplayed in the pie chart, color-coded dark blue.DiscardedDisplays the number of packets which were discarded even though theycontained no errors that would prevent transmission. Good packets are typicallydiscarded to free up buffer space when the network becomes very busy; if this isoccurring routinely, it usually means that network traffic is overwhelming thedevice. To solve this problem, you may need to re-configure your bridgingparameters, or perhaps re-configure your network to add additional bridges.Consult the Cabletron Systems Network Troubleshooting Guide for moreinformation. These statistics are displayed in the pie chart, color-coded magenta.ErrorDisplays the number of packets received or transmitted that contained errors. These statistics are displayed in the pie chart, color-coded red.Unknown Protocol(Received only)Displays the number of packets received which were discarded because they werecreated under an unknown or unsupported protocol.Packets Received(Received only)Displays the number of packets received by the selected interface.Transmit Queue Size(Transmit only)Displays the number of packets currently queued for transmission from thisinterface. The amount of device memory devoted to buffer space, and the trafficlevel on the target network, determine how large the output packet queue cangrow before the SmartSwitch 2000 will begin to discard packets.Packets Transmitted(Transmit only)Displays the number of packets transmitted by this interface.
