FDDI Applications6-4Concentrator ConfigurationNon-Op-Dup The ring is not operational; the address of the MACunder control of the SMT entity has been found toduplicate that of another MAC on the ring. The duplicateaddress condition prevented ring recovery andinitialization after a claim and beacon process. This statewill not occur unless you are using locally- administeredaddresses, as factory-set MAC addresses are guaranteedto be unique.Ring-Op-Dup The ring is operational; however, the address of the MACunder control of the SMT entity has been found toduplicate that of another MAC on the ring. Correctiveactions will be attempted before the duplicate addresscondition causes ring initialization to fail after the claimand beacon recovery process. Like Non-Op-Dup, thisstate will not occur unless you are usinglocally-administered addresses.Directed The beacon process did not complete within sevenseconds. The selected SMT has directed the controlledMAC to send beacon frames to notify the other stationsthat a serious problem exists on the ring, and a Tracestate is soon to follow.Trace A problem exists on the ring which could not becorrected during the beaconing process, and a Trace hasbeen initiated. During a Trace (or Path Test), the SMTsends a signal that forces its nearest upstream neighborto remove from the ring and conduct a self-test. If thering does not recover, each subsequent upstream stationwill be forced to remove from the ring and conductself-tests until the problem has been corrected. While thetest is being conducted, ring management re-enters theisolated state.SMT VersionDisplays the HSIM-F6’s operational Station Management (SMT) version. SMTprovides the system management services for the FDDI protocols, includingconnection management, node configuration, error recovery, and managementframe encoding. SMT frames have a version ID field that identifies the structureof the SMT frame Info field. The version number is included in the SMT frame sothat a receiving station can determine whether or not its SMT version is able tocommunicate with the SMT version of another station. Knowing the versionnumber allows the stations to handle version mismatches. Each FDDI stationsupports a range of SMT versions. The supported version range is identifiedwithin the ietf-fddi MIB by two smtTable attributes: snmpFddiSMTLoVersionId andsnmpFddiSMTHiVersionId. If a received frame is not within the supported versionrange, the frame is discarded.
