Passenger Compartment Air FilterThe passenger compartment air filter traps most of thepollen from the air entering your vehicle. Like yourvehicle’s engine air cleaner/filter, it needs to be changedperiodically. For how often to change the passengercompartment air filter, seeScheduled Maintenanceon page 6-4.Using your climate control system without the passengerair filter installed may allow water or other debris toenter the system. This could cause a water leakor noises. Make sure to install a new air filter afterremoving the old one.The passenger compartment air filter is locatedunderneath the hood below the windshield wiper armon the passenger’s side of the vehicle. SeeEngineCompartment Overview on page 5-12 for moreinformation on location.Use the procedure listed below to replace the passengercompartment air filter:1. Turn the ignition to ON with the engine off.2. Turn on the windshield wipers and turn them offagain when the wipers are straight up and downon the windshield.This will allow you access to the leaf screenunder which is located the passenger compartmentair filter.3. Open the hood to access the engine compartment.SeeHood Release on page 5-11 for moreinformation.4. Remove the four screws that hold the leaf screen inplace and lift off the screen by lifting and slidingtoward the center of the vehicle.5. Pull out on the two tabs located on each end of thefilter cover.6. Lift the filter cover off by pulling it straight upward.7. Remove the old filter and insert a new one.Make sure the arrow on the filter is pointing towardthe passenger compartment.SeeNormal Maintenance Replacement Parts onpage 6-15 for the correct part number for the filter.8. Reverse Steps 1 through 6 to reinstall the cover.3-33
