Ignition Transmission Lock CheckWhile parked, and with the parking brake set, try to turnthe ignition to OFF in each shift lever position.• With an automatic transmission, the ignition shouldturn to OFF only when the shift lever is in PARK (P).The key should come out only in OFF.• With a manual transmission, the ignition should turnto OFF only when the key release button is pressed.The key should come out only in OFF.Contact your GM Goodwrench dealer if service isrequired.Parking Brake and Automatic TransmissionPark (P) Mechanism Check{CAUTION:When you are doing this check, your vehiclecould begin to move. You or others couldbe injured and property could be damaged.Make sure there is room in front of yourvehicle in case it begins to roll. Be ready toapply the regular brake at once should thevehicle begin to move.Park on a fairly steep hill, with the vehicle facing downhill.Keeping your foot on the regular brake, set the parkingbrake.• To check the parking brake’s holding ability: With theengine running and transaxle in NEUTRAL (N),slowly remove foot pressure from the regular brakepedal. Do this until the vehicle is held by the parkingbrake only.• To check the PARK (P) mechanism’s holding ability:With the engine running, shift to PARK (P). Thenrelease the parking brake followed by the regularbrake.Contact your GM Goodwrench dealer if service isrequired.Underbody Flushing ServiceAt least every spring, use plain water to flush anycorrosive materials from the underbody. Take care toclean thoroughly any areas where mud and otherdebris can collect.6-12
