Wiper Activated HeadlampsThis feature activates the headlamps and parkinglamps after the windshield wipers have been in use forapproximately six seconds and the multifunction lever isin the AUTO position. See Exterior Lamps on page 3-28.When the exterior lamp control has been turned off or isin the parking lamp position and the wiper control ison delay, low speed or high speed, the HEADLAMPSSUGGESTED message will appear on the DriverInformation Center (DIC).When the ignition is turned off, the wiper-activatedheadlamps will immediately turn off.Headlamps on ReminderA warning chime will sound if the exterior lamp controlis left on in either the headlamp or parking lamp positionand the driver’s door is opened with the ignition off.Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) can make it easier forothers to see the front of your vehicle during theday. DRL can be helpful in many different drivingconditions, but they can be especially helpful in the shortperiods after dawn and before sunset. Fully functionalDRL are required on all vehicles first sold in Canada.The DRL system makes the front turn signal lampscome on when the following conditions are met:• It is still daylight and the ignition is on.• The exterior lamp control is in the off position.• The transmission is not in PARK (P).When DRL are on, only the front turn signal lamps areon. No other exterior lamps such as the parking lamps,taillamps, etc. are on when the DRL are used. Yourinstrument panel is not be lit up either.When it is dark enough outside, the front turn signallamps turn off and normal low-beam headlamps turn on.When it is bright enough outside, the regular lamps go off,and the front turn signal lamps take over. If you start yourvehicle in a dark garage, the automatic headlamp systemcomes on immediately. Once you leave the garage, ittakes about one minute for the automatic headlampsystem to change to DRL if it is light outside. During thatdelay, the instrument panel cluster might not be as brightas usual. Make sure the instrument panel brightnessknob is in the full bright position. See Instrument PanelBrightness on page 3-32 for more information.If it is dark enough outside and the exterior lamp controlis off, a HEADLAMPS SUGGESTED message displayson the Driver’s Information Center (DIC). This messageinforms the driver that turning on the exterior lamps isrecommended. See DIC Warnings and Messages onpage 3-63.3-29
