Safety belts help keep the passenger in position on theseat during vehicle maneuvers and braking, whichhelps the passenger sensing system maintain thepassenger airbag status. See “Safety Belts” and“Child Restraints” in the Index for additional informationabout the importance of proper restraint use.If you ever pull the shoulder portion of the belt out allthe way, you will engage the child restraint lockingfeature. This may unintentionally cause the passengersensing system to turn the airbag(s) off for someadult size occupants. If this happens, just let the belt goback all the way and start again.{CAUTION:If the airbag readiness light in the instrumentpanel cluster ever comes on and stays on, itmeans that something may be wrong with theairbag system. If this ever happens, have thevehicle serviced promptly, because anadult-size person sitting in the right frontpassenger’s seat may not have the protectionof the airbag(s). See Airbag Readiness Lighton page 3-46 for more on this, includingimportant safety information.1-49
