The transmitter can beauthenticated either by putting yourfoot on the brake pedal or bypushing the ignition control knob in.Automatic TransmissionMove the shift lever to P (Park) orN (Neutral). The engine will not startin any other position. To restart theengine when the vehicle is alreadymoving, use N (Neutral) only.If the vehicle has the keylessaccess system, your foot must beon the brake pedal to start theengine. To rotate the ignition controlknob, put your foot on the brakepedal and turn the ignition controlknob to the START position. If theignition control knob does not turn,try pushing the knob in and turningagain. When the engine beginscranking, let go of the ignitioncontrol knob, it will return to theON/RUN position.If the transmitter is not in thevehicle or something is interferingwith the transmitter, the DriverInformation Center (DIC) willdisplay ELECTRONIC KEY NOTDETECTED. See Driver InformationCenter (DIC) on page 528 for moreinformation.If the battery in the keylessaccess transmitter needs replacing,the DIC displays REPLACEBATTERY IN REMOTE KEY.The vehicle can still be driven.See “Battery Replacement” underRemote Keyless Entry (RKE)System Operation (Keyless Access)on page 27 or Remote KeylessEntry (RKE) System Operation(Key Access) on page 25 for moreinformation.Notice: Do not try to shift toP (Park) if the vehicle is moving.If you do, you could damage thetransmission. Shift to P (Park)only when the vehicle is stopped.Manual TransmissionThe shift lever should be in neutralposition and the parking brakeengaged. Hold the clutch pedaldown to the floor and start theengine. The vehicle will not start ifthe clutch pedal is not all theway down.
