Heart rate zones are generally based on a percentageof your maximum heart rate and are numbered from 1 to 5based on intensity (1–lowest, 5–highest).About AutoLearn™For each sport, the Forerunner 301 contains a set of defaultheart rate zones, which may not reflect your heart ratezones accurately. Consequently, the Forerunner employsan extremely valuable feature called AutoLearn, which canautomatically determine your heart rate zones over a periodof time and calculate your maximum heart rate.Using AutoLearnAutoLearn is turned on by default in Running mode, so theForerunner begins gathering data to calculate your heart ratezones from your very first workout—no setup or calibrationrequired.When the Forerunner gathers enough data to calculate newheart rate zones, a message appears on the Welcome screenimmediately after you turn it on. Thereafter, the Forerunnercontinues to gather data and adjust your heart rate zonesto reflect your current fitness level.
