It provides for enhanced trafficand terrain situational awareness when not specifi-cally viewing traffic or terrain related functions. Forexample, both traffic and terrain situational awarenesscan be maintained while viewing the Flight Plan Func-tion.Zoom LevelThumbnail view of conflicting terrain and trafficThe Thumbnail is shown in both a small and largeformat, depending on the function currently beingviewed. The Thumbnail is typically presented in thelarger format when overlaid on a map. However, onsome functions where the Thumbnail would overlaycritical information, the smaller format is utilized. The Thumbnail provides a fixed 5 nm range viewwith a solid circle and a 2 nm inner circle. The rangedepicted by the Thumbnail is not affected by the cur-rent zoom scale set on the main map functions.Traffic on ThumbnailTIS, TAS, TCAS, or ADS-B traffic is shown on theThumbnail in the same symbology used within the Traf-fic Function. Any traffic within sensor range and 5 nmis shown, in addition to traffic causing an amber TrafficAlert (TA) traffic. Note that the GMX 200 supports onetraffic sensor in any installation.Terrain on the ThumbnailOnly “Red” terrain within the 5 nm range is pre-sented on the Thumbnail. This correlates directly toterrain that is rendered in red on the normal TerrainFunction based on the internal terrain database. Exter-nal TAWS-based terrain from the Goodrich Landmarkis not shown on the Thumbnail.Obstructions on the ThumbnailOnly “Red” obstructions within the 5 nm range arepresented on the Thumbnail. This correlates directlyto obstructions that are rendered in red on the otherfunctions.Thumbnail ActivationThe Thumbnail incorporates logic that will eithershow or hide the thumbnail from view. It will onlybe shown when there is data to be presented and willbe removed if not. For example, if there is no “Red”terrain or traffic within 5 nm, the Thumbnail will behidden from view. The Thumbnail will not appearon the Traffic Function page if only traffic would bepresented in the Thumbnail. Correspondingly, it isnot shown on the Terrain page if only terrain wouldbe presented in the Thumbnail. This logic eliminatesredundant views that would be created by the Thumb-nail and normal views of traffic and terrain. Addition-ally, the Thumbnail is disabled while operating on theground. This state is determined by the “En Route/Ground Transition Speed” set in the System Functionpage and is based on GPS ground speed.
