21Detailed OperationCustom MapThe GMX 200 must have VOR symbols turned onfor this feature to be active in the Custom Map func-tion. VOR information is always shown in the IFR andVFR Chart functions.VOR OBSThe OBS (Omni-Bearing Selector) value selectedin the SL30 will be shown as a line from the tunedVOR station in magenta on the GMX 200 display. Theselected value will be shown on the line. This featureprovides a quick view of your position relative to boththe VOR and the tuned radial to help improve situ-ational awareness. The OBS line will only be drawnfrom the active VOR, not the monitored VOR.The SL30 must be receiving a valid signal fromthe VOR and the GMX 200 must have VOR symbolsturned on for this feature to be active.ILS/Localizer DepictionWhen either an ILS or localizer is tuned on theSL30, the GMX 200 will display the currently tunedapproach on the appropriate airport runway. The SL30Nav function provides an overall graphic view of theselected airport and approach based on runway exten-sions and the selected frequencies. The standard ILSsymbol is shown in magenta on the GMX 200 display.ILS for currently tuned approach by SL30Localizer Back Course DisplayThe GMX 200 will draw the “front course” on itsdisplay when a localizer frequency is tuned into theSL30. If you enable the localizer back course featureof the SL30, the GMX 200 will then draw a localizer“front course” graphic extending from the reciprocalrunway.The localizer front course graphic is shaded onthe right side. The localizer back course graphic isshaded on the left side. Since the SL30 reverse-sensesthe needles, a standard “chase the needle” approachmay be made and the localizer “front course” graphicis always used on the GMX 200. A published localizerback course approach at the airport is not necessary toenable this feature.The SL30 must be receiving a valid ILS, or localizer,and the GMX 200 must have airports turned on for thisfeature to be active.
