Adjust the zoom level using the In or Outkeys.Viewing the Chart as an OverlayDisplay of Coverage AreaOnce the desired approach chart has been loaded,a green Annunciator bar with the approach name isilluminated at the top of the Custom and IFR maps. Ifthe aircraft is outside the coverage area of the approachchart, a black rectangular box will be presented thatshows the coverage of the chart itself.Once the aircraft has entered the coverage area, thechart contents will be displayed on the screen. Notethat a loaded approach chart is only viewable whenthe aircraft is in flight, otherwise, the airport surfacechart has priority and the approach chart must beviewed in the ChartView function.Chart ZoomingAuto zoom mode is supported from the CustomMap and is recommended to reduce the workloadassociated with maintaining an appropriate zoomlevel. In auto zoom mode (entered by zooming all theway down or all of the way up), the zoom scale will becalculated to maintain the active waypoint of your GPSreceiver on the screen at all times. When an approach chart is loaded and beingdisplayed, the auto zoom mode will limit the low-endzoom level to 5 nm as the current waypoint is beingapproached. This prevents the display from zoominginto a level where the overall situational awarenessrelative to the approach as a whole is lost. This can beover-ridden by taking the unit out of auto zoom mode. This limit does not apply when the auto-zoom mode istied to the GNS 480-series GPS receiver.Chart PanningPanning on the loaded chart is currently not sup-ported. Entering the panning mode will disable thedisplay of the chart and allow the underlying maplayers to be presented.Chart OrientationWhen the chart overlay is presented, the orienta-tion is identical to the currently selected orientation ofthe map itself (North up, track up or desired track up)with the ownship position correctly geo-referencedand presented on the chart. Note that rotation of thetext on the charts themselves is not supported, mean-ing that text may not be oriented horizontally whendisplayed in track-up fashion.Chart InfoPressing the Info key when a chart is loaded willchange the smart key labels to Header, Profile, Mins, and Info.
