29Detailed OperationIFR En Route ChartAirport ChartAirport surface charts provide a graphical presen-tation of the airport surface area (runways, taxiways,buildings, towers, and other objects), within theimmediate airport vicinity.From either the Custom Map or the IFR en routeMap, airport surface charts will automatically beloaded and displayed as an overlay if the followingconditions are met:• The airport surface chart is within the loadeddatabase• The airport surface chart is geo-referenced byJeppesen• Airport Chart menu layer is turned on• The aircraft position is within the coverage of thechart• A loaded approach chart is not being “flown”Load ChartOnce the airport is selected, the individualapproach chart to be overlaid can be loaded from a listof geo-referenced approach charts available for thatairport. Not all approach charts can be overlaid in thisfashion and only geo-referenced charts will be pre-sented for selection from the Custom Map. Becauseof this, it is possible that approach charts that areviewable under the ChartView Function may not bepresented in this list.NOTE: The pilot must be aware that not allcharts in the loaded database can be used asan overlay. The Load Chart function is automaticwhen connected to a GNS 480-series GPS re-ceiver and the AutoLoad Chart option is enabledin the SYS function.Press the Main Menu key to return to the firstpage of menu items.
