281 - COM190-00357-00 Rev GEmergency Channel / Stuck MicEmergency ChannelThe GNS 530W’s emergency channel select pro-vides a quick method of selecting 121.500 MHz as theactive frequency in the event of an in-flight emergency.The emergency channel select is available wheneverthe unit is on, regardless of GPS or cursor status, orloss of the display.Press and hold the COM flip-flop key fortwo seconds to activate the 121.500 MHzemergency frequency.To quickly tune and activate 121.500, pressand hold the COM (or remote) flip-flop key forapproximately two seconds. If the remote key isused, further changes in COM frequency will notbe possible without recycling power.NOTE: Under some circumstances if the com systemloses communication with the main system, the radiowill automatically tune to 121.500 MHz for transmitand receive regardless of the displayed frequency.Stuck MicrophoneWhenever the GNS 530W is transmitting, a“TX” indication appears in the COM window. If themicrophone is stuck or accidentally left in the keyedposition, or continues to transmit after the key isreleased, the COM transmitter automatically times out(or ceases to transmit) after 35 seconds of continuousbroadcasting. You will also receive a “COM push-to-talk key stuck” message as long as the stuck conditionexists.A “COM push-to-talk key stuck” message appears to warnyou of a stuck microphone. Transmitting is disabled after 35seconds of continuous broadcasting.Remote Frequency Selection ControlOn units configured for remote Com frequencyrecall*, pressing the remote recall switch will load thenext preset Com frequency into the unit’s Standby fre-quency box and display a temporary pop-up windowwith the current Preset ID number—e.g., Preset 1 orPreset 12. The remote recall switch can be pressedmultiple times to scroll the entire preset frequencylist through the Standby frequency box (the list will“wrap” from the bottom of the list back up to the top,skipping any empty preset positions).The standby frequency isn’t activated until a Comflip flop switch (either remote- or bezel-mounted) ispressed.
