and ensure that different devices on the same SCSI channel do not attempt totransfer data simultaneously. The SCSI IDs for the hard disk drives in the expansionunit are permanent (not configurable). Table 4 lists the SCSI IDs for the hard diskdrives that are installed in the expansion unit. See “Installing a SCSI hot-swap harddisk drive” for instructions for installing hard disk drives.Table 4. SCSI IDs for hot-swap hard disk drives in the expansion unitDevice SCSI IDDrive bay 1 0Drive bay 2 1Note: SCSI ID 7 is usually reserved for the SCSI controller; however, this SCSI IDis changeable through the ServeRAID configuration program or the LSIconfiguration program utility.Use the Configuration/Setup Utility program in the blade server to enable or disablethe SCSI controller in the storage expansion unit. See the documentation thatcomes with the storage expansion unit for information about configuring the storageexpansion unit and SCSI hard disk drives.Installing a SCSI hot-swap hard disk driveIf you have installed a SCSI storage expansion unit on the blade server, you caninstall up to two SCSI hot-swap hard disk drives in the bays in the expansion unit.If a hot-swap hard disk drive in the expansion unit fails, you can replace it withoutturning off the blade server. Therefore, you have the advantage of continuing tooperate the blade server while a hard disk drive in this unit is removed or installed. Each hot-swap hard disk drive has two indicator LEDs. If the amber hard disk drivestatus LED for a hard disk drive is lit continuously, that hard disk drive is faulty andmust be replaced. Each hot-swap hard disk drive that you plan to install must be mounted in ahot-swap-drive tray. The hard disk drive must have a Single Connector Attachment(SCA) connector. Hot-swap-drive trays come with the hot-swap hard disk drives. For a list of SCSI hard disk drives supported by the blade server, go to theServerProven list at http://www.ibm.com/pc/us/compat/.The following illustration shows how to install a SCSI hot-swap hard disk drive.48 BladeCenter HS20 Type 8832: Hardware Maintenance Manual and Troubleshooting Guide
