Statement 21CAUTION:Hazardous energy is present when the blade server is connected to the power source.Always replace the blade cover before installing the blade server.3. Reinstall the blade server into the BladeCenter unit (see “Replacing the bladeserver in the BladeCenter unit” on page 29).4. Turn on the blade server (see “Turning on the blade server” on page 9).5. For certain options, run the blade server Configuration/Setup Utility program(see “Updating the blade server configuration”).Note: If you have just connected the power cords of the BladeCenter unit toelectrical outlets, you must wait until the power-on LED on a blade serverflashes slowly before pressing the power-control button on that blade server.Updating the blade server configurationWhen you start the blade server for the first time after you add or remove aninternal option or an external SCSI device (if the storage expansion unit has beeninstalled), you might see a message telling you that the configuration has changed. The blade server Configuration/Setup Utility program automatically starts so thatyou can save the new configuration information (see “Using the Configuration/SetupUtility program” on page 14).Some options have device drivers that you need to install. See the documentationthat comes with the option for information about installing any required devicedrivers. The blade server comes with one or two microprocessors installed on the systemboard. If the blade server comes with two microprocessors, or the blade servercomes with one microprocessor and you have installed an additionalmicroprocessor, the blade server can now operate as an SMP server. Therefore, you might want to upgrade the operating system to support SMP (see Chapter 6,“Installing the operating system,” on page 55 and the operating-systemdocumentation).Input/output connectors and devicesThe input/output connectors available to the blade server are supplied by theBladeCenter unit. See the documentation that comes with the BladeCenter unit forinformation about the input/output connectors. The blade server has two selection buttons on the control panel: theCD/diskette/USB select button and the keyboard/mouse/video select button (see“Blade server controls and LEDs” on page 10).The Ethernet controllers on the blade server communicate with the network throughthe Ethernet-compatible switch modules on the BladeCenter unit. Network signals toand from the blade server or any I/O expansion cards are automatically routed to asame-network-interface switch module through circuitry in the BladeCenter unit.Chapter 5.
