5512: DISTINCTIVE RING: Distinctive ringing is a service offeredby some telephone services that allow you to have differentnumbers on one line, each with its own distinctive ring. In thisway, when you get an incoming call, you can identify whatnumber is being called by the ring pattern. Your local telephoneservice can provide you with more information about this serviceand if it is available. If available, this service is usually offered asa monthly charge to your normal telephone bill. Availablesettings are Off, Set and On. To use this function, refer to“Setting Distinctive Ring” on page 57.13: PAPER SIZE: This function allows you to tell your faxmachine what size of paper you are using in the paper cassetteand manual paper feed of your fax machine. Available settingsare A4, letter, legal 13 and legal 14.14: USER LANGUAGE: This function allows you to selectamong the languages programmed into your fax machine.15: INCOMING RING: This function controls the telephoneringing sound your fax machine makes when a call comes in.When this function is set to off, your fax machine will not ringduring incoming calls. When set to on, your fax machine onlyrings when set to manual receive mode or 11:RING RESPONSEis set to 5 to 20 seconds (except 1 ring). When set to DRC, yourfax machine rings for each incoming call with the same tone,even if you have function 12:DISTINCTIVE RING set to on.Available settings are On, Off and DRC.Note: DRC is only available if the setting of user function12:DISTINCTIVE RING is available. Also, when set toOFF, there is no effect on the ringer in telephone/fax autoswitch answering mode.16: REMOTE RECEIVE: When you receive an incoming call,this function allows you to remotely tell your fax machine toswitch from telephone to fax mode to receive an incoming fax.To use this function, use the keypad of a handset or an externaltelephone to enter the remote receive number you haveprogrammed into your fax machine. Available settings are Off,00, 11, 22, 33, 44, 55, 66, 77, 88, 99, ** and ##. This functiononly works if your telephone system is a touch-tone dialingsystem.17: MEM./FEEDER SW.: This function selects the transmissionmode of MEM. TX (scan before sending) or FEED. TX (sendeach page directly from document feeder). This becomesavailable when 25: INSTANT DIAL is off.19: ECM FUNCTION: The error correction mode function helpsyour fax machine to improve communication in areas wheretelephone line conditions are poor. Available settings are On andOff.Note: When using ECM, the transmitting fax machineautomatically checks the data as it is sent. If the receivingfax machine cannot verify the transmission, thetransmitting fax machine will retransmit as necessary.Using ECM also increases transmission time because thedata is checked as it is transmitted.Not all fax machines have ECM.
