20Special FeaturesàSpecial FeaturesUSING THE DELAYFUNCTIONMany agencies use a two-way radio systemthat has a period of several secondsbetween a query and a reply. To avoidmissing a reply, you can program a 2–second delay into any channel or frequency.When your scanner stops on any channel orfrequency with a programmed delay, DLYappears and the scanner continues tomonitor that frequency for an additional 2seconds after the transmission stops beforeresuming scanning or searching.You can program a 2 second delay in any ofthese ways:• If the scanner is scanning and stops onan active channel, quickly press DELAYbefore it continues scanning.• If the desired channel is not selected,manually select the channel, then pressDELAY.• If the scanner is searching, pressDELAY. DLY appears and the scannerautomatically adds a 2-second delay toevery transmission it stops on in thatband.To turn off the delay, press DELAY while thescanner is monitoring the channel orfrequency. DLY disappears.LOCKING OUT CHANNELSAND FREQUENCIESYou can increase the scanning or searchspeed by locking out individual channels orfrequencies that have a continuoustransmission, such as a weather channel(see the “Weather Channel FrequencyChart” on Page 19) or birdie frequency (see“Birdie Frequencies” on Page 22).Locking Out ChannelsTo lock out a channel while scanning, pressand release L/O (L/O RVW) when the scannerstops on the channel.To lock out a channel manually, select thechannel then press and release L/O (L/ORVW) until L/O appears.To unlock a channel, manually select thatchannel again, then press L/O (L/O RVW). L/O disappears from the display.Notes:• The scanner automatically locks outempty channels.• You can still manually tune to locked-outchannels.Locking Out FrequenciesTo lock out a frequency during a servicebank, or a direct search, press L/O (L/O RVW)when the scanner stops on the frequency.The scanner locks out the frequency thencontinues searching. You can lock outfrequencies in both direct search and servicebank searches.Note: You can lock out as many as 50frequencies during a search. If you try to lockout more, FLo -FULL appears (see“Reviewing Locked-Out Frequencies” onPage 21and “Removing All Locked-Out TagsFrom Frequencies” on Page 21).
