These operatingfrequencies might interfere withtransmissions on the same frequencies. Ifyou program one of these frequencies, youhear only noise on that frequency. If theinterference is not severe, you might be ableto turn SQUELCH clockwise to cut out thebirdie.To find the birdies in your scanner, followthese steps.1. Disconnect the antenna and move itaway from the receiver. Make sure thatno other operating radio or TV sets arenearby.2. Search in each frequency band from thelowest frequency to the highest. If thesearch stops on a frequency, but youhear no sound, chances are you havelocated a birdie. Note all birdiefrequencies for reference.The known birdie frequencies to watch forare:UNITED STATESBROADCAST BANDIn the United States, there are severalbroadcast bands. The standard AM and FMbands are probably the most well known.There are also four television audiobroadcast bands — the lower three transmiton the VHF band and the fourth transmits onthe UHF band.
