Settings145Packet dataThe packet data settings affect all access points using apacket data connection.• Packet data conn.: If you select When available and youare in a network that supports packet data, the phoneregisters to the GPRS network and sending text messages isdone via GPRS. Also, starting an active packet dataconnection, for example, to send and receive e-mail, isquicker.If you select When needed, the phone uses a packet dataconnection only if you start an application or action thatneeds it. The GPRS connection is closed once it is not usedby any application.Note: If there is no GPRS coverage and you have chosen Whenavailable, the phone periodically tries to establish apacket data connection.• Access point: The access point name is needed when youwant to use your phone as a packet data modem for yourcomputer.
