Settings149Digital certificates are used to verify the origin of browserpages and installed software. However, they can only betrusted if the origin of the certificate is known to beauthentic.Digital certificates are needed if you:• want to connect to an online bank or another site or remoteserver for actions that involve transferring confidentialinformation, or• want to minimise the risk of viruses or other malicioussoftware, and be sure of the authenticity of software whendownloading and installing software.Important: Even if the use of certificates makes the risksinvolved in remote connections and software installationconsiderably smaller, they must be used correctly in order for youto benefit from increased security. The existence of a certificatedoes not offer any protection by itself; the certificate managermust contain correct, authentic, or trusted certificates forincreased security to be available.Viewing certificate details - checking authenticityYou can only be sure of the correct identity of a browsergateway or a server when the signature and the period ofvalidity of a browser gateway or server certificate havebeen checked.You will be notified on the phone’s display:• if the identity of the browser server or gateway is notauthentic or• if you do not have the correct security certificate in yourphone.To check certificate details, scroll to a certificate and pressor select Options → View details.
