INSTALLATIONInitial settingsCertain steps (dependent upon the hardware configurations ofyour system and the type of software you are using) need to betaken to enable the operation of your software.Serial port printer connectionsSome programs send data directly to the serial port when thesoftware is set to print to a serial (COM) port. Your fax cannotbe sent from this type of program. You must first set theprogram to print to a file and use the filename COM1.PRN. Thisfilename is recognized by the fax software, and treats this file asa port from which it can intercept. During the install program,specify COM1 as the printer port.If your program does not have the ability to print to a file, usethe fax software redirection feature along with a MS-DOScommand to fax with a serial port. Configure your programs toprint to LPT1. During the install program, select COM1 as theprinter port. Use the fax software redirection feature to selectLPT1 as the redirection port (see “Setting advanced options withINSTALL/A” in the “Administering the fax software” chapter). Usea MS-DOS mode command to set up communication settings forthe serial port. Consult your MS-DOS manual for informationregarding mode commands.Do not use a MS-DOS mode redirection command such asLPT1=COM1.Windows installationsIf you have installed the fax software to use in the Windowsenvironment, the fax software loads automatically when you startWindows. The Fax or Print dialog box appears when youexecute a Windows application print command.The Fax or Print dialog box allows you to select between faxingand printing your document.
