876 CHAPTER 81: R EMOTE- PING CONFIGURATIONRemote-pingConfigurationThe TCP/UDP/jitter tests need the cooperation of remote-ping client andremote-ping Server, Other types of tests need to configure remote-ping client andcorresponding different servers.Configuration on aRemote-ping ServerYou can enable both the remote-ping client and remote-ping server functions on aSwitch 7750, that is, the switch can serve as a remote-ping client and serversimultaneously.HTTP operation string and version (http-string) This parameter is used to set the HTTPoperation string and version in an HTTP test.FTP operation type (ftp-operation) This parameter is used to set the type of FTPinteraction operation between remote-pingclient and FTP server.FTP operation type (ftp-operation) This parameter is used to set the type of FTPinteraction operation between remote-pingclient and FTP server.FTP login username and password (usernameand password)The two parameters are used to set theusername and password to be used for FTPoperation.File name for FTP operation (filename) Name of a file to be transferred betweenremote-ping client and FTP serverNumber of jitter test packets to be sent perprobe (jitter-packetnum)■ Jitter test is used to collect statisticsabout delay jitter in UDP packettransmission■ In a jitter probe, the remote-ping clientsends a series of packets to theremote-ping server at regular intervals(you can set the interval). Once receivingsuch a packet, the remote-ping servermarks it with a timestamp, and thensends it back to the remote-ping client.Upon receiving a packet returned, theremote-ping client computes the delayjitter time. The remote-ping clientcollects delay jitter statistics on all thepackets returned in the test. So, themore packets a jitter probe sends, themore accurate the jitter statistics is, butthe longer time the jitter test costs.Interval to send jitter test packets(jitter-interval)Each jitter probe will send multiple UDP testpackets at regular intervals (you can set theinterval). The smaller the interval is, thefaster the test is. But a too small intervalmay somewhat impact your network.Trap ■ A remote-ping test will generate a Trapmessage no matter whether the testsuccesses or not. You can use the Trapswitch to enable or disable the output oftrap messages.■ You can set the number of consecutivefailed remote-ping tests before Trapoutput. You can also set the number ofconsecutive failed remote-ping probesbefore Trap output.Table 691 Remote-ping test parametersTest parameter Description
