8-10 Receiving Faxes Chapter 8Setting Up Fax/Tel ModeYou can control precisely how your MultiPASS C70 handles incomingcalls by adjusting the settings described below.n The options described below can also be set from the MultiPASSDesktop Manager. (1 MultiPASS Suite Software User’s Guide)❏ RING START TIMEWhen a call comes in, the unit checks to see if it is a person wishingto speak to you or a fax machine trying to send a document. If yourunit does not have enough time to detect the fax tone, it assumes thecall is from a telephone. Use the RING START TIME setting toincrease the time the unit takes to check whether a call is from a faxmachine or a telephone. You can select a time between 0 and 30seconds. The default setting is eight seconds.❏ F/T RING TIMEWhen your unit is set to receive both fax and telephone callsautomatically, it rings to alert you to pick up the handset or thehandset of the telephone or extension phone if the call is from aperson. If you do not pick up the handset within a certain amount oftime, the unit stops ringing. Use this option to change the length oftime the unit rings, from 10 to 60 seconds. The default setting is 22seconds.❏ DEFAULT ACTIONNot all fax machines are capable of sending a fax tone (the CNGtone that warns the receiving fax machine that a fax is coming). Inthose cases the unit may think that the call coming in is a voice calland rings to alert you of the call (the amount of time it is going toring is determined by the F/T RING TIME setting above). If you donot answer the call, one of two things can happen:1. If you set the DEFAULT ACTION setting to RECEIVE, the unitwill switch to fax receive mode automatically at that point andstart to receive the document. If no document comes in, itdisconnects the call after approximately 55 seconds. The defaultsetting is RECEIVE.2. If you set the DEFAULT ACTION to DISCONNECT, the unit willdisconnect the telephone call immediately freeing up yourtelephone line at this point.
