Provisioning a Port ExtenderYou can provision a port extender (PE) with an initial software configuration before or after you install andpower on the PE. To provision a PE, start from the control bridge console and enter the following commands. If you enter the commands before you install the PE with a parent control bridge, the pre-configuredsoftware settings are downloaded to the PE when you attach it to a control bridge port and power up the PE.NOTE: Although you can provision a PE before or after you install and power on the PE, Dell NetworkingOS recommends pre-configuring software provisioning before you install a PE and then connect it to apre-configured, cascaded control bridge port. In this way, you can “plug and play” a PE with a parentcontrol bridge. To activate PE configuration commands and make them visible, you must first enable the PE feature byentering the feature extended-bridge command. See Enabling the Port Extender Feature.1 Enter Port-Extender Configuration mode to provision a PE.CONFIGURATION modeDell(conf)# pe provision pe-id• pe-id is a port-extender ID number from 0 to 255. You must enter a pe-id value; there is nodefault. After you provision a PE, you can manage the PE by entering the pe pe-id command; for example:Dell(conf)# pe 0Dell(conf-pe-0)# show configNOTE: Dell Networking OS recommends that before you configure the cascade ports on the parentcontrol bridge, ensure that the cascade ports have a default port configuration with no L2 and L3configuration.2 Configure the cascade ports on the parent control bridge used to connect to the PE. The cascade portsmust be operationally up (the no shutdown command) and have a default port configuration with noL2 and L3 configuration. The port interfaces must be the same type. You can configure up to sixteencontrol bridge ports in the auto-LAG.PORT-EXTENDER CONFIGURATION modeDell(conf-pe-0)# cascade interface interface-type slot/port-rangeNOTE: Dell Networking OS recommends not to use RPM Slots 10 and 11 for PE connectivity.• interface interface-type specifies a C9010 10-GbE interface. The only supported value isTenGigabitEthernet slot/port-range.• slot/port-range specifies a C9010 10GbE port, including the slot number and either a singleport number, a port range, or a combination of both.• The range of slot numbers is from 0 to 9 for linecard slots. The range of port numbers is from 0 to23.• Enter a port range with or without spaces; for example, cascade interfacetengigabitethernet 0/1-5 or cascade interface tengigabitethernet 0/1 - 5.Port Extenders (PEs) 821
