In this instance, the deviceretrieves the new configuration file and boots from it. The device then enablesDHCP, as instructed in the new configuration file, and the DHCP instructs it to reloadthe same file.NOTE: If you configure a DHCP IP address, this address is dynamically retrieved, and the ip address dhcp command is saved in the configuration file. In the event ofmaster failure, the backup will again attempt to retrieve a DHCP address. This couldresult in one of the following:• The same IP address may be assigned.• A different IP address may be assigned, which could result in loss ofconnectivity to the management station.• The DHCP server may be down, which would result in IP address retrievalfailure, and possible loss of connectivity to the management station.Receiving an IP Address From a BOOTP ServerThe standard BOOTP protocol is supported and enables the device toautomatically download its IP host configuration from any standard BOOTPserver in the network. In this case, the device acts as a BOOTP client.console# show ip interfaceIP Address I/F Type Directed Precedence StatusBroadcast----------------- --------- -------- -------- -------- -----0.0.0.0/32 gi2/0/1 DHCP disable No Valid10.5.234.232/24 vlan 1 Static disable No Valid
