What your server offersThe unique design of your IBM xSeries 240 takes advantage of advancements insymmetric multiprocessing (SMP), data storage, and memory management. Yourserver combines: Impressive performance using an innovative approach to SMPYour server supports up to two Pentium III microprocessors. Your servercomes with one microprocessor installed; you can install an additionalmicroprocessor to enhance performance and provide SMP capability. Large data-storage and hot-swap capabilitiesAll models of the server support up to six hot-swap hard disk drives. Thishot-swap feature enables you to remove and replace hard disk drives withoutturning off the server. Hot-plug PCI adapter capabilitiesYour server has three hot-plug slots for PCI adapters. This feature issometimes referred to as Active PCI. With operating system support, you canreplace failing hot-plug PCI adapters without turning off the server. If thehot-add feature is supported by your operating system and the PCI adapter, you can also add PCI adapters in these slots without turning off the server. Redundant cooling and power capabilitiesThe redundant cooling and hot-swap capabilities of the fans in your serverallow continued operation if one of the fans fails. You can also replace a failingfan without turning off the server. The two 250-watt power supplies in your server provide redundant power formany configurations of your server. If the average load on your server is lessthan 250 watts and a problem occurs with one of the power supplies, the otherpower supply can handle the load. For power loads above 250 watts, you caninstall a third, optional power supply to provide a full 500 watts of power. TheNON REDUNDANT light emitting diode (LED) on the diagnostic LED panel is litwhen the power load is 250 watts or greater with two power supplies installed. Large system memoryThe memory bus in your server supports up to 4 GB of system memory. Thememory controller provides error correcting code (ECC) support for up to fourindustry-standard PC133, 3.3 V, 168-pin, 8-byte, registered,synchronous-dynamic-random access memory (SDRAM) DIMMs (IntelPC-Registered SDIMM Specifications, Revision 1.0 or later), synchronous, dualinline memory modules.4 IBM xSeries User's Reference
