Chapter 4 Preparing for Use21PleaseRead First4Preparing for UseThis section explains the preparation required before you use DS-L3 for observation or photographing.4.1 Starting/Closing DS-L3CAUTION: Power supply for the DS-L3• Always use the POWER switch on the front of the DS-L3 to turn it on or off.• When turning off the DS-L3, check that green light for the POWER indicator is out before unplugging the AC adapterfrom the product or power cord from the AC power socket.• Always use the specified power supply (100 to 240 VAC, 50 to 60 Hz as indicated on the nameplate).• Be sure to use the specified power supply.• Be sure to use the specified power cord.• Be sure to use the specified AC adapter.4.1.1 Starting DS-L3Follow the steps below to start DS-L3.When using the microscope control functionWhen you connect a Nikon microscope and use the microscope control function of DS-L3, switch the microscope onbefore DS-L3. For how to switch on the microscope, refer to the manual of your microscope.1 Press the power switch of DS-L3 to switch it on.Operating power switchWhen the power is supplied, the start screen appears on themonitor and the POWER indicator (green) starts to blink.When DS-L3 has been started normally, the POWER indicator(green) stops blinking and becomes on, and the image (liveimage) captured by the DS camera head replaces the start screenon the monitor.Blinks Lights2 Confirm that the live image and the task bar aredisplayed on the monitor.Depending on the status of the optical device, you may not be ableto determine if the image displayed on the monitor is the liveimage.Especially when the DS camera head is connected to amicroscope, the screen may become coarse with the maximumcamera gain unless the lighting and focus are properly adjusted.Note: If Nikon microscope Ni-E or Ni-U is connected and the DScamera head is not connected, the [Microscope control]screen is automatically displayed when DS-L3 is started.Start screenLive screenPreparing for Use4ChapterTask bar
