46 Chapter 3 Installing the Passport 8672ATME Module209195-BStarting the system after a module replacementAfter you a replace a module on the chassis, you can expect the following results:• In a running system, when you replace an I/O module with a module of thesame type, the system restores the configuration of all the ports.• When you replace a module with one of a different type, the system discardsthe configuration of the old ports, and the new ports are added to either thedefault VLAN or a null VLAN, depending on the operating mode of theswitch.• When you save the configuration in nonvolatile random access memory(NVRAM), turn off the switch, replace a module with a different module type,and turn the system on again, the system discards the configuration of the oldports, and adds new ports to either the default VLAN or an unassignedVLAN, depending on the operating mode of the switch.Starting the system with an empty slotWhen you save the configuration in NVRAM, shut down the system, remove amodule, turn on the chassis with that slot empty, and then populate the slot with amodule of the same type as the one previously there, the system is not able torestore the original configuration.
